The Painting and The Weave – January 2021

The words of my poem for January 2021 were inspired whilst walking with my daughter Bex across the top of Queen’s Parlour Bridgnorth (facing eastwards across the fields towards Pattingham).

It was one of those cold wet wintry days when you can look forward an open fire, warming tea and hot buttered crumpets when you arrive back home.

Rain hangs heavy in the sky

Cold mizzle clings to hills and black furrowed field

Mud, puddles and boots squelching

All is still, no biting north wind today

but the enveloping lingering damp seeps

into ancient trees and down into the earth

And under the sodden decaying terrain

the Sun God chooses quiet and reflection.
